Microsoft has finally released Security Essentials from out of beta yesterday.
“About Microsoft Security Essentials
Microsoft Security Essentials provides real-time protection for your home PC that guards against viruses, spyware, and other malicious software.
Microsoft Security Essentials is a free* download from Microsoft that is simple to install, easy to use, and always kept up to date so you can be assured your PC is protected by the latest technology. It’s easy to tell if your PC is secure — when you’re green, you’re good. It’s that simple.
Microsoft Security Essentials runs quietly and efficiently in the background so that you are free to use your Windows-based PC the way you want—without interruptions or long computer wait times.”
You can download Microsoft Security Essentials from the product website here. I recomend getting it and to add another layer of protection. I recommend getting PC Tools Threatfire (32-bit only I think).

So it’s been forever since I updated this blog. I got my iPhone! It’s pretty nice. Question to anyone who reads this blog. Do you have any app’s you recommend getting? Leave a comment and let me know about them. I will be posting tutorials on this site for a lot of things, apps, programs, windows, mac, photoshop etc. I will be making video tutorials as well. They will be posted on youtube and on my filefront page. I am still working on getting my Mac Pro. I am just waiting for apple to update them. I don’t want to buy a Mac Pro and have them update them with better CPU or graphics etc. So I can wait. Anyways thats about it for this update. Stay tuned!
So today I was thinking, which isn’t good. Why doesn’t Apple make a limited live DVD for Mac OS X. Which will run on Windows, Intel and AMD. Giving Windows uses a chance to try out the OS. That would probably be great for users wanting to switch or try out the OS to see if they like it over Windows. Live CD’s and DVD’s are great ways for users to try out different operating systems. I been using Linux for a while now. But I love the fact I can download a .ISO and try out different distros. I think if they had a limited live DVD for Mac OS X more people would switch to a Mac. I know I can’t compare the two. Linux is free and Mac OS X isn’t. Thats why I said a “limited” live DVD. Don’t put everything in there, let them try the OS out. It’s hard for a Windows user to just switch. They have to buy a new system just to see if they even like Mac OS X. That a big under taken just to see if they like it. I think if Apple did that, they would get a lot more people switching to Mac. Anyways I just wanted to share my thoughts… Sorry.
A warning for those of you wanting to install Windows Media Player 11. If you have a capture card and use Windows Movie Maker to capture video, be prepared on a long wait time for your capture to finish. Let me walk you though my experience with Windows Media Player 11.
Ok so i have a ATI 550 theater pro capture card/TV tuner, and I use Windows Movie Maker. I use the “Best quality for playback on my computer (recommended)” option. Which is WMV @ 720×480, 30 fps and 2.1Mbps bit rate. Now before I installed Windows Media Player 11, I would capture 20 minute Halo 2 games. I would click “Stop Capture” button when I was done, then i would hit the finish button. At this point it would take a millisecond to make/add the clip to “My collections” in Windows Movie Maker.
Now With Windows Media Player 11 installed.
I go to capture some halo games and I see the preview window is lagging, skipping like it’s missing frames. Or like my CPU is being used really hard. This has never happened before, so I didn’t think much oh it at the time. Until I clicked Finish and had to wait a full two minutes for it to make/add the clip to “My collections”. So I knew something was up, the next game I play I wanted to capture it. And as it was capturing it did the same thing so i was getting pissed. So I look at my “Extender Resource Monitor” and it’s in RED bar. I see the my p4 dual processor is 100% for both. I double check with the “Windows Task Manager” and both the CPU’s are at 100%.
So I was thinking Windows Movie Maker probably uses Window Media Player to display the video to be captured. And when you edit clips in Windows Movie Maker there is a mini version of Windows Media player. Kinda like what you see in web pages. I check the Internet and Microsoft.com to see if other people had my problem, but I couldn’t find any info. Until my friend just got a capture card and wanted my help to set it up. He too had the same problems almost, His computer is slower then mine. So when he was done capturing his game play and then hit finish. Windows Movie Maker took one hour to make/add the clip to his collections.
So I then uninstall Windows Media Player 11 from my computer and the three other things it had installed with it. And rolled back to Windows Media Player 10. Now when I capture with Windows Movie Maker it no longer maxes out my CPU to 100% and it only takes a millisecond to make/add the clip to “My collections”. I have tested this two times on my computer. And my friend removed Windows Media Player 11 on his computer as well and his no longer takes one hour to make/add clips to his collections.
If anyone has had the same problems as my friend and I, Please leave a comment and tell me what went wrong.
